In a range of fantasy figures this set is a bit hard to understand, because rednecks certainly do exist, even though some consider the term derogatory. In fact a commentary on this set already exists on this site, at Dark Alliance Rednecks, which discusses these figures in detail, so we will offer only a brief overview here. Basically these are modern civilians dressed in ordinary, casual clothing, but armed to the teeth with an array of rifles, agricultural implements (including a chainsaw) and a banjo. This might be seen as pandering to a stereotype, or it might be pretty realistic - we wouldn't know, but the shabby quality of the clothing, the improvised nature of some of the 'weapons' and the figure swigging from a bottle do not portray these people in a sympathetic light. Exactly what the motivation for this set was is unclear, but perhaps portraying films like Deliverance (1972) or certain zombie films was the point.

The sculpting on these figures is very nice. While these are not the complex uniforms of centuries past, all the clothing is of course very recognisable to modern man, and it has been convincingly done. Faces and hands are good, and the sculptor has included some interesting hair and beard styles, while the representation of several of the figures as being overweight to a greater or lesser extent is unfortunately a fair reflection of much of the modern population, including the citizens of the southern United States, as implied by the Confederate flag on the box. Unfortunately the great sculpting is diminished by a considerable amount of flash, though this is variable and some seams are quite clean. As basic modern civilians these figures could have many uses, often one figure might work in a scenario while the rest would not, and of course there is much scope for conversion, particular of weapons. It is an interesting subject, even if not one we understand, and it offers unusual possibilities, particular in a hobby short of civilians of any age.
