Zombies, usually defined as corpses reanimated by some means, are a very popular subject in numerous books, films and television. Their origins are generally traced to Haitian folklore, but there is evidence for an earlier, African source to the idea. In the present day however they are depicted as being anywhere and everywhere, although the means by which they became zombies often varies greatly. The classic image of zombies are of humans in deteriorating condition, walking slowly and quite awkwardly, often with arms outstretched as if to grab a living being, perhaps for food or to turn them into a zombie too. This image seems to be the inspiration for this set of figures, all of which are pretty much doing exactly what we have described. By their clothes they are clearly modern, and we have a nice mix of men and women, boys and girls. It is amusing to note that several are considerably overweight, so quite a fair reflection of modern society, at least in the developed world. Certain individuals may have been inspired by particular characters in films or television, but they are a cross-section of society, although most look to have been young at the time they became a zombie - most obviously the many children here.

The poses are either standing or, at best, shuffling, and many have outstretched hands as we have said. The faces look suitably horrific and some of the hands are quite skeletal, while the clothes are often torn. Although the sculptor has had problems with individual fingers, overall they have achieved a very good result with these figures, none of whom you could really mistake for a living person. Detail is not a big issue with such a subject, but they are well done and convey the appropriate level of menace very well. Most of the seams have no flash at all, but we did find some large tabs of flash in a handful of places. If you are in need of a collection of zombies then this set seems to match at least our idea of what a zombie mob should look like perfectly.
