HMS Bounty was the only ship model in roughly 1/72nd scale (actually 1/87th scale) apart from the Golden Hind to be provided with a crew by Airfix, or at least a representative set of figures. In fact the three such figures provided were very similar to those found in the Golden Hind set, with all being identical in pose but just updated for the 18th century. The supposed captain figure is dressed in normal naval uniform for the period (1780s) and stands with his hands behind his back, no doubt watching the running of his ship. The other two are crew figures, in the Golden Hind poses, so one carries a chest and a barrel while the other seems to be using a handspike to move a gun. Both are dressed in what might be described as best rig rather than ordinary working attire when at sea.

The sculpting is pretty nice on these figures, with quite good detail and fair proportions. They do not come with bases however, and on our sample at least we found a fair amount of flash, though this is an old product so this may vary wildly. The captain figure we liked very much, but the crew in our view would have been better in more working attire, and for warm weather, especially since the ship gained its fame around the pacific islands such as Tahiti. Again, three poses do not go far, although they do at least give some sense of perspective when looking at the ship as a whole.

Next to the men is one of the four deck guns that come with the kit. The barrel is 17 mm in length, and it sits on a small naval carriage which means the barrel reaches no higher than the men's knees. Originally a merchant ship, when she was bought and refitted by the Royal Navy for her famous expedition she was armed with four of these 4 pounder guns as well as 10 swivel guns, which is the last piece of ordnance pictured above.

Airfix never really illustrated this model in any of their catalogues, but in one there is this tiny photo that shows some of the crew figures.
