When we first heard of this set we wondered what exactly are modern Amazons, and now that we have seen the figures, we are still wondering what are modern Amazons. To be honest there is nothing remotely modern about any of these figures. What little costume there is is too scanty to belong to any period, and the helmets are fantastical and very far from modern. The weapons are an assortment of blades (swords, axes and spears), hammers and a bow. To the best of our knowledge none of these are employed by modern armies, or really modern anything else for that matter. Many of these weapons are enormous - far larger than makes practical sense, although who is to say that modern Amazons are not much stronger than real people today?
The poses are quite energetic, and the normal fare for such weapons, including some being held directly over the top of the head, or being held to the side in a way easy to sculpt if nothing more. The detail is well picked out on these, and they do look well done, but as can be seen above they are awash with flash in vast quantities in many places, and the thin, curved bases on some do not help matters either. If these are 'modern' then presumably they would be looking at their phones, playing with various game consoles or riding electric scooters. Since none of these is happening here, we are as perplexed about what a modern Amazon is as we were at the start. However if this is the sort of thing you want for your fantasy models, then be prepared for a lot of work to extract these decent sculpts from the poor quality of the injection moulding, at least if our example is typical.
