There are very few sets of civilians, except for those aimed at the model railways market, but this is one of the most versatile. Traditional Arab costume is simple, cool and has changed little over hundreds of years. Though today many Arabs choose to dress in a more Western style, there are still plenty who present a more traditional view, so these figures are suitable for scenes covering many centuries.
These resin figures are cast in black, and have been excellently done with natural folds in the clothing. A number of undercuts show that the mould was flexible, and this allows better definition of items such as the plate and jug than is possible with rigid moulds. Faces are nicely done, and all the figures are well proportioned. Note that none of the figures are provided with a base, though they do stand (somewhat precariously) without one. We added bases to allow them to be painted, and to make them more stable. The casts come with no flash except where the resin entered the cavity, and this is easily trimmed. Another excellently executed set for an unusual subject that could have uses in almost any Middle East scene.
