In North America the Seven Years War was a straight fight for control of that vast area between Britain and France, involving both regular troops and colonial militia. Both sides also made use of the native tribes, useful allies in the vast thickly forested region where traditional European-style battles were a rarity. The figures in this set show typical warriors of the period, and they could just as easily be fighting for either side, or indeed be involved in some inter-tribal action unrelated to the Europeans.
As with all resin sets there are only a few figures to be found here. However every one is different, and all have been beautifully carved. One European described the Indians by saying 'They go naked, excepting a strip of cloth passed through a belt'. Two of the figures here are thus dressed, but the others have at least partly embraced European clothing by wearing buckskin hunting shirts. All wear the buckskin leggings that were invaluable in close country, and they carry an array of knives, tomahawks, powder horns and other items. They are all armed with a musket, either given to them by their allies, bought in trade or acquired from a slain opponent. By no means all Indians had a firearm, and some that did carried pieces that were little better than antiques.
The detail on these men is excellent and makes them very easy to paint. Using a flexible mould has allowed some undercutting which improves their look, though the Indian raising his club in the air has a separate musket. We added bases to the figures to allow them to be held while painting, but bases are not supplied in the set and clearly the standing figures either balance precariously on their feet or don't balance at all.
These figures are entirely authentic and really look the part. A most attractive set that depicts a subject so far ignored by other manufacturers, and a must buy for anyone inspired by such films as 'The Last of the Mohicans'!
