This first set in the series on Arabs includes men of learning and authority. The Arab culture has always given a high priority to learning, and it was only thanks to their actions in saving so much of the knowledge of the ancient world that the Renaissance in Europe could occur. A muezzin is a high official in a mosque, who’s most obvious duty is to call the faithful to prayer, so again he would be learned and a respected leader.
The costume and bearing of all these men certainly gives the right impression for such men. Many are holding books in their hand, so could either be reading from the Koran or perhaps just teaching others. The man with his arms in the air is certainly being very expressive, so we would assume his motivation is one of faith rather than education. However regardless of the actual activity, all these beautiful little figures are wonderfully realised, with the fine detail and lively expressions we would expect from Nikolai. There is no flash or unwanted material, so while they do not come with any sort of base they are otherwise ready to use straight out of the box, and with figures this impressive you would not want to wait. Another triumph from this consistent manufacturer.
