This particular piece from the Zvezda range of game pieces called 'Art of Tactic' is something of a surprise since a set of early war German infantry ('German Infantry 1939-42') had been amongst the very first sets in this range to see the light of day. Nevertheless there is always demand for such figures, so while it is a duplicate of the game piece, it offers some new poses, which is always good.
While the poses in this set are different the uniform is much the same as in the original set, being the classic early war tunic and long boots so familiar to many films and TV shows. The men wear standard battle kit and accuracy is fine. The standard of sculpting is also very good, with sharp detail, good proportions and no flash anywhere. The multi-part nature helps, but we found these very easy to put together – better than some more recent sets from this range. The poses are not particularly active but perfectly serviceable, and all come with their own separate bases as shown above. Alternatively of course, the group can all be placed on one single base to form a game piece as shown here. While it seems unnecessary given the older set, these figures are very nice, and while the officer pose with cap and submachine gun is not the most useful of figures, and we will never complain about too many figures being made!
