Here we have a number of ancient musicians, all with their hands to their mouths and clearly holding one of the various musical instruments provided separately. The instruments are all much the same, and can be used as flutes or the aulos, which was a double-reeded instrument often seen in Greek painting and also used in the Roman period. Assembly is a bit tricky as the hands are not always sufficiently open to accept the instrument, but some perseverance produces good results. The costume of the players is varied and not always particularly typical of ancient civilian wear, although as performers there would have been no particular rules on costume, any more than there are any rules today for performers. The sculpting is excellent, with good faces and natural lines to the clothing. There is no flash so these are nicely done.
