This is another generic animal set from Nikolai, with no worries about uniforms or weapons, which makes a pleasant change. What we have is two animals - mules - which have been something of man's favourite beast of burden down the centuries. They are hardy, sure-footed and strong but being small they require less food than horses. They were used extensively as both pack and draught animals, and as can be seen the animals in this set are already harnessed for pulling a vehicle of some sort. This could be seen as a limiting factor, although other companies have made mules as pack animals over the years.

Although this reviewer cannot claim any great expertese regarding mules these models certainly appear to be accurate in all respects, and we would hardly expect anything else of Nikolai. The sculpting is excellent as always, with the flexible mould meaning legs can be adjacent to each other in a perfectly natural stance that steel moulds find difficult to reproduce. The only trimming required is to remove the funnel where the resin entered the mould, but there is no flash to remove. As resin the thinner parts of these animals, such as the legs, will not tolerate heavy handling, but if you mount them on a base as we have (they are supplied without any bases) then they will be more robust.

Another top notch product from Nikolai, and again a set with an extremely wide range of uses down the centuries.
