This set is included on this site because it forms part of the mainly figure range from Nikolai. It contains a number of models of walruses and seals, both important inhabitants of the world of the Inuit.

The first thing that strikes you when you look at this set is just how big the walrus is. These animals can grow up to 3.5 metres in length, and weigh anything up to 1,700 kg - that's about the same as a complete rugby team! The animal in this set certainly looks impressive, with his long tusks (which are up to 1 metre in length) making him look particularly ferocious. The second walrus, with only his head appearing above water, is almost as impressive. Given that this reviewer knows nothing about walruses these two models look perfectly fine to us, and are certainly very nicely textured and well detailed pieces of work.

Seals tend to rank higher in the public awareness, in no small measure thanks to their naturally cute faces. The various models in this set are all perfectly sealed-shaped as far as we can tell, and while surface texture is not relevant in this case, they seem to be well sculpted. If you paint them, and of course that includes those big dark eyes, then they certainly come to life. You won't find the word 'cute' in any other review on this site, but it certainly belongs here.

These resin figures are of the usual top quality sculpting, but care needs to be taken of flippers and tusks as these fairly fragile models will not stand rough treatment. The set is just called 'Polar Animals', which includes a lot more than just seals and walruses. However polar bears are available in another set, and if this is not a comprehensive selection then it is certainly an attractive one.
