Review

Not exactly soldiers, we know, but perhaps some of these could be used in some jungle warfare scenario! Anyway, Airfix included them in the range, so we have included them here.

This set is made up of:

  • Camel
  • Baby Elephant
  • Ostrich
  • Rhino
  • Alligator
  • Brown Bear
  • Antelope
  • Deer
  • Alligator (small)
  • Lion
  • Tiger
  • Baby Kangaroo
  • Keeper
Sounds delicious (well, apart from the keeper), but what can we say about them. Well, the standard of sculpting is about average for this stage in the range from Airfix, with reasonable detail and fair anatomical accuracy. Several of the creatures have surprisingly slender and elegant parts such as the antelope antlers and the limbs of the kangaroo, and though these were likely to be easily snapped off in play, they have been nicely done.

Airfix were always happy to reuse their figures in other sets, and several of these animals later appeared in the Tarzan set. We are no experts on animals, but all these look reasonable enough, although the bear pose looks just a little too much like a lovable friendly creature waving to the children rather than a fearsome beast. With very little flash this is a nice looking set, if not likely to generate much interest these days except from collectors.
