These particular Arab figures have the look of traders about them, perhaps because several are handling cloth and could easily be imagined in the street trying to sell it. They are all dressed in the traditional thawb, with one man having an overgarment and another a scarf. All have turbans on their heads except for the third figure in our picture, which has a more negro-looking face and wears a tarbush, so may have his ancestry in the Sudan, for instance.

The delight in these figures is in the superb sculpting. The faces are wonderful, and the loose flowing robes are perfectly captured here. The poses themselves are quite static but nonetheless natural and well executed, making these a lovely set of figures that would grace any scene from the Middle East.
