This set depicts the heavy armoured infantry that the Persian Empire employed against Alexander the Great. It is one of a large number of sets produced by HaT to represent that campaign.
As heavy infantry this set is comparable to the Zvezda Persian Infantry set, which means it has some stiff competition. Happily it holds its own, with some nice poses, plenty of detail and little flash. The inclusion of a standard-bearer is a surprise in a set of only eight poses, but a welcome one.
There are a couple of minor criticisms. The figure with his spear above his head has been awkwardly sculpted. The spear touches his helmet - this is to avoid problems with undercutting on the mould and to assist with the flow of the plastic in the mould - but the result is a rather unlikely pose. Also, the quivers for the two archers have no straps or other means of support. They would normally be held either from a belt or with a strap over the shoulder. The figure yet to raise his bow may have these hidden, but the figure with bow drawn should have some straps visible.
Neither of these faults is particularly serious, and overall this is a good set that will work well with sets both from this manufacturer and others.
